The Cabinet of Ministers allowed a number of foreign-flagged vessels to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) along the Northern sea route until December 30, 2043, according to an order published on the website of the government of the Russian Federation.

Currently, the transportation of hydrocarbons along the Northern sea route by foreign-flagged vessels is prohibited.

According to the document, until December 30, 2043 28 vessels under the foreign flag, contracts of affreightment and are at least 15 years, allowed for the international carriage of natural gas (including liquefied, LNG) and gas condensate produced in Russia and shipped on these vessels in the Sabetta to the first point of discharge or overload.

Exceptions will also apply to cases when natural gas and gas condensate on these vessels will be loaded in Sabetta and unloaded or reloaded in the ports of Murmansk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
